Cambrian Biopharma is looking for an innovative, entrepreneurial scientist domain expert in Mitochondrial Biology.
By possessing deep knowledge and a large network of contacts with other expert scientists within the mitochondrial biology field, the candidate should be able to accelerate the creation of new biotech companies with the goal of identifying or inventing therapies that slow or reverse the damage of aging. The candidate needs to be creative in both science and business, insightful, resourceful, collaborative, and possess high integrity to join our growing team.
Reporting to a Venture Director, the Scientist in Residence will positively drive the identification of new company concepts and strategies, identify company founders which are typically academic PIs or biotech entrepreneurs, and communicate to the Cambrian investment committee the scientific concepts and innovation rationale to justify making multi-million dollar investments to form new companies. This person will be supported by a team of highly engaged colleagues with significant scientific and entrepreneurial experience including matrixed R&D Teams, Ventures Team, and Ops Team to create business plans with clear milestones, project plans, and budgets. The candidate will also need to recruit staff and deliver on goals and timelines.
Conceive and contribute to create 2-3 new biotech companies in collaboration with cross-functional Cambrian and academic teams and manage the planning and development of projects progressing them to value-increasing inflection points
Create detailed cross-functional project plans with timelines and budgets
Work with R&D, Venture, and Ops Teams to identify risks and issues and proactively remediate issues/develop risk mitigation strategies
Work closely with a Venture Director and EVP R&D to execute and start and operate companies efficiently
Communicate and regularly present to Cambrian teams the progress and issues, updated project plans, budgets, and Gantt charts of the new company formation and operations
Ability to respond proactively and positively to ambiguity with a desire to tackle all tasks no matter how big or small with a sense of humility and urgency
Resilience in response to setbacks and ability to anticipate and overcome barriers
Identify and own deliverables
Ph.D. in Biology or other life sciences
Minimum 4 years of post-doctoral experience in a Mitochondrial Biology Laboratory
Excellent leadership, strategy, communication, writing, presentation, analytical, technical and data management skills
Proven ability to work collaboratively and influence others
