Cambrian Biopharma is seeking a resourceful, inquisitive, and professional HR Generalist to support HR compliance as well as benefits and payroll management. Reporting to the Director of People and Culture, this role will serve as the key point person for all questions regarding HR compliance for Cambrian, as well as our pipeline companies. The HR Generalist will ensure Cambrian’s compliance obligations and procedures are met while providing general HR payroll and benefits support. This person will create and implement proactive processes and policies to ensure Cambrian is operating properly regarding statutory compliance, regulatory compliance, contractual compliance, HR technology and employee data rights, internal policies, training compliance, international labor law, and workplace compliance. The ideal candidate will have broad experience in managing policies and programs and working knowledge of all federal and local employment laws as well as employee benefits programs. They will have the proven ability to interface with and influence employees and managers of all levels to ensure compliance standards are upheld. The successful candidate will be a skilled and detail-oriented project manager with strong organizational skills and a passion to create and implement HR-related processes.
This position is responsible for HR compliance, as well as benefits and payroll management:
HR compliance (supported by outside counsel):
Serve as primary liaison for all HR compliance related matter with staff members, as well as with outside counsel. This includes questions/concerns about employment contract paperwork and structure, compensation paperwork and structure, and any issues as they relate employment law in different regions (both domestically and internationally).
Continually remain educated on changing laws and update employee handbook accordingly.
Partner with PEO during the bi-weekly payroll cycle to ensure that all off-cycle payments, vacation and sick hours, etc. are captured and documented appropriately in our PEO system.
Partner with Pipeline Operations team to ensure matters related to employment contracts and structures at Pipeline Companies is properly managed to mitigate business risk.
Partner with Director of People and Culture to ensure all performance and employee relations concerns are handled in a timely and discrete manner and escalated, as necessary.
Identify high-risk situations and partner with Director of People & Culture, the Cambrian executive team and legal counsel as needed.
Benefits and Payroll Management
Serve as the primary liaison between Cambrian and our comprehensive PEO provider for all matters related to payroll and benefits.
Responds to employee inquiries concerning payroll and benefits with a sense of urgency, in a kind and empathetic manner, ensuring that staff member’s needs and concerns are addressed.
Execute onboarding of new employees in PEO system. Ensure new employees are set up correctly in payroll, enrolled in benefits, and have all required forms completed.
Ensure all consultants have contracts that clearly outline scope of work and all necessary paperwork has been executed for successful onboarding.
Oversee management of options agreements, as well manage all necessary paperwork and payroll deductions required in relation to options being exercised.
Develop and prepare communications to employees about benefit programs, procedures, claims and any other government mandated disclosures.
Ensure all Workers Comp, Unemployment or Wage Garnishment and Deductions notices are processed and filed accordingly.
Ensure all leaves of absence and time off are tracked appropriately in Payroll & Benefits systems, including COVID-19 related leave.
Ensure termination pay is processed in accordance with state laws and ensure timely receipt of termination paperwork and payment and all necessarily termination paperwork is executed
Owns all documentation and maintenance of payroll and benefits records to meet the needs of finance team.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of experience in human resources as an HR Generalist or equivalent, preferably working in a growing startup with international presence; experience in biotech or pharma is a plus.
Experience working with a PEO managing payroll and benefits required.
