Casma Therapeutics is harnessing autophagy by developing a novel degradation technology to open new target areas for drug discovery and development that will profoundly impact the lives of patients. Autophagy is a conserved cellular process that contributes to overall organismal health, but when autophagy is perturbed, inefficient autophagic flux contributes to numerous diseases. By selectively boosting autophagy, Casma expects to be able to arrest or reverse the progression of several diseases such as neurodegeneration, metabolic disorders, inflammation, and muscle degeneration. Casma was launched in 2018 by Third Rock Ventures and recently completed a Series B financing led by The Column Group with participation by new investors Eventide and Schroeder Adveq.
As a research-stage biotech company, data is our most important asset. The Data Engineer will work across science and technology to solve complex scientific data problems in a dynamic research environment. You will assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining the software tools and infrastructure to empower our scientific data processes. You will work with scientists to help them collect, organize, share, and create actionable results from the data we produce. The ideal candidate will have a background working with life science organizations, experience with a variety of scientific data types and expertise in cloud computing and scientific software tools. Work closely with scientists to understand their workflow and data needs to drive deployment of technology solutions.
Develop solutions leveraging and configuring commercial software or custom code to solve business problems.
Work collaboratively with software and development partners to build a cohesive data ecosystem within Casma.
Support and maintain a variety of laboratory instruments, commercial software, cloud infrastructure, and internally developed tools that drive scientific research.
Perform data-centric business analysis and provide pragmatic solutions.
Execute and automate standard scientific and statistical analyses using tools/languages including Python, R, SQL.

Requirements + Qualifications
Degree in a relevant scientific or computational field (chemistry, biology, computer science, bio/cheminformatics)
3+ years work experience in a scientific or software/technology role
Direct work experience in either:
scientific software administration and tool development including compound registration, assay results management systems, electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN), laboratory information management systems (LIMS), and desktop scientific tools
direct laboratory science experience with a strong computational and data skillset (current scientist looking to move into informatics)
An understanding of drug discovery and scientific principles and processes
Attention to detail and an ability to manage small scale projects
with chemical and biological data and protocols (screening assays, high content image analysis, LC/MS, SPR, RNAseq, etc.)
in a scientifically relevant coding language (Python, R, SQL, etc.)
with cloud infrastructure and dev-ops principles (AWS, Azure, GCP)
with visualization tools (Spotfire, Tableau, Looker)
knowledge of database and data warehousing design
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
A demonstrated ability to think logically and critically
Ability to successfully participate in a highly creative and enthusiastic start-up environment
