    Company
    Loyal
We are hiring a Data Scientist to join the rapidly growing Computational Biology team!  We are looking for someone with a strong background in statistics and/or machine learning to help drive multiple data-intensive projects forward. This is a unique opportunity to have real-world impacts much faster than is currently possible in human research, with the goal of applying what we learn to humans. You will be taking on projects ranging from sequencing alignment to image classification, and therefore need to be highly flexible, willing to learn, and always looking for opportunities to drive company goals forward. Loyal is an early stage company, which means there are no stringent hierarchies, silos, or bureaucracy. While you will be ultimately responsible for executing key projects within the team, you will have ample opportunity to work with, learn from, and influence other sides of the company.
Loyal is founded and led by a first-gen, female CEO – we encourage and look forward to diverse applicants.

    You will

      • Design and execute computationally intensive analyses to extract meaningful and actionable information from various datasets ranging from website traffic to glucose monitoring
      • Provide algorithmic and machine learning support for various data pipeline projects including various omics modalities
      • Contribute statistics and modeling support for preclinical and clinical study designs
      • Contribute expertise for designing compute infrastructure
      • Present findings at regular meetings for both technical and non-technical audiences, up to the executive level
      • Help set standards for code and data management
      • Write findings up for internal white papers, external journals and blog posts

    Basic Qualifications

      • MA/MS in Machine Learning / Computational Biology / Statistics / Math / any other computationally intensive field
      • Experience in analyzing and modeling high dimensional biological data
      • Willing to take on exploratory novel methods
      • Solid experience in statistics and modeling, including but not limited to linear, non-linear and bayesian modeling, machine learning, and algorithm development.
      • Experience programming in python (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, scipy) in a Linux environment
      • Experience in a collaborative coding environment (familiar with code review, architectures and strategies)

    Preferred Qualifications

      • PhD in Machine Learning / Computational Biology / Statistics / Math / any other computationally intensive field
      • Experience with deep learning packages (pytorch, pytorchlightning, tensorflow, keras, wandb), cloud computing (AWS, Azure), relational databases, Apache Spark
      • Image and video analysis is a plus

    How you work and think

      • Strong desire to work collaboratively within a team and across teams
      • Always looking for opportunities to assist others
      • Process driven - creates frameworks to tackle challenging problems
      • Mission driven - able to put day to day work in the context of the overall goals of the company
      • Desire to learn and grow in ability and responsibilities
      • Track record in communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders
      • Able to work in a fast paced and ever-changing environment
      • Empathy toward others and low ego
    Our Values
The Fundamentality of Health | Good health is critical to every other human (and animal!) experience. We believe health is a fundamental right and are dedicating our lives to maximizing health and developing better medicines for the worst diseases.
Truth Seeking & Feedback Loops | Uniquely in biology, there is a predetermined truth of whether a specific drug will work or not — we just have to catch up with biology! We seek out this truth and do not shy away from inconvenient truths. This holds for personal development too: we are always searching for feedback loops and embody a perpetual growth mindset.
Morality & Empathy | We are developing medicines that may one day be given to a living animal, medicines that if designed badly could hurt that animal instead of help. This is a huge responsibility and should be respected as such. Our work needs to adhere to the strictest moral code and always integrate empathy for the patient.
Transparency | We believe full transparency in thoughts, opinions, intentions, and actions (both good ones and mistakes) is a better way to build a business and work together.
Kindness | Great business(wo)men do not need to be ruthless — you can execute excellently with kindness.
Dog gifs | We love them.
