    Calico is seeking an exceptional and collaborative Senior Research Associate who will be part of a scientific team exploring the impact of stress signaling pathways in mammalian aging and disease. The selected candidate will fill a hands-on wet lab position and will design, execute, and analyze cell-based and biochemical studies in support of several projects. This person will be able to work both independently and collaboratively and will be detail-oriented, organized, adaptable and self-motivated. The successful candidate will have significant experimental experience, exceptional critical thinking skills, the ability to clearly communicate with cross-functional teams, and a passion for experimental research. This position is ideal for a candidate seeking to work at the intersection of discovery and translational research and/or gain additional skills in preparation for graduate or medical school.  We welcome applications from experienced BS/MS graduates who are looking to be part of a dynamic and fast-paced translational research team.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design and execute molecular, cellular, and enzymatic experiments to support various projects focused on stress signaling pathways in mammalian aging and disease
    • Analyze and interpret data, delivering and communicating results for time-sensitive goals
    • Work closely with team members to develop and optimize fit-for-purpose assays

    Requirements:

    • BS/MS with 2+ years of relevant technical experience. Salary and title commensurate with experience
    • Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture including primary cells, molecular biology skills (e.g. gene synthesis, cloning and gene editing, DNA/RNA isolation, RNA-seq) and biochemical methods (e.g. SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, ELISAs) is a must
    • Familiarity with fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, tissue extraction and processing, and immunohistochemistry or in situ hybridization (ISH) is a plus
    • Strong attention to detail, possess quantitative skills and excellent verbal/written communication skills
    • Candidate must be an enthusiastic team player and able to work both independently and collaboratively
