    The Altos Institute of Medicine will capture knowledge generated about cell health and programming from our Institutes of Science, and develop transformative medicines.

    Who You Are

    The selected Director of the Institute of Medicine will have a track record and strong reputation in innovation and creativity, critical scientific thinking and analysis, with a deep level of curiosity and understanding of new technologies and cutting-edge approaches to realize cellular health. The individual leverages strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, strategic and tactical thinking for success.  They are expected to develop and implement a vision for the group by recruiting and managing top talent to anticipate and meet the growing needs of the company.

    What You Will Contribute to Altos

    The Institute of Medicine will be uncompromisingly dedicated to translating breakthrough science into transformational medicines to help as many people as possible impacted by disease and disability. Our scientific advances will allow Altos to bring the power of understanding cellular health and rejuvenation programming, and the Altos Institute of Medicine will recognize the full potential of this new scientific frontier of medicine to reverse disease, injury, and the disabilities that accrue throughout life. The Director of the Institute of Medicine is expected to develop and implement a vision for the Institute of Medicine by recruiting and managing top talent to anticipate and meet the growing needs of Altos.

    • Senior strategic leader of all functions of the Institute of Medicine
    • Creates structures and organizes formal or informal internal committees when applicable to ensure scientific discoveries advance
    • Manages and is responsible for hiring and development of the Institute of Medicine Leadership Team and extended Leadership team
    • The Director of the Institute of Medicine, working with Altos leadership will design the organizational structure and build the capabilities and capacities to develop medicines across an array of modalities
    • This candidate will develop and implement strategies and manage a multi-disciplinary group providing critical disease-oriented research, translational research, and product development
    • Provide guidance and scientific stewardship for all development candidates and will continue building a high-performing function and leadership team in support of the Altos mission and the future pipeline
    • Ensures a healthy balance of collaboration across Institutes of Science and Medicine
    • Promotes a healthy culture that supports bold innovation through: Generosity of Spirit Truth-Seeking, Curiosity and Creativity Comfort with Uncertainty, Transparency, Humility, and Good Stewardship of Company Resources
    • Executive oversight and prioritization of the design, execution, analysis, interpretation, and communication of all pre-clinical studies as well as to oversee clinical development
    • Highly adept at building and managing relationships across various functions, and positioning results with a deep scientific understanding as to how the findings relate to early lead selection for clinical development
    • Lead and participate as a senior thought leader in a variety of interdisciplinary teams and all corporate governance forums
    • Represent Altos as an executive scientific expert both internally and at significant external scientific conferences and forums
    • Create Translational Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Clinical Operations, Regulatory, and other areas as determined by the CEO
    • Responsible for leading the organization in optimizing the resource allocation & budget process for functions and aligning assumptions for budget and long-range planning
    • Responsible for valuable scenario planning to accelerate programs
    • Oversee delivery of high-quality executive presentations for governance processes, senior leadership, board of directors, etc.

    Qualifications:

    Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to promote inclusion and attract a diverse team while developing important relationships with key stakeholders, ability to identify issues of high impact and raise to key stakeholders in order to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and recommendations.

    • MD degree required
    • Possess expertise in all aspects of drug development, strong knowledge of commercialization and launch process
    • Specifically able to demonstrate experience in designing development strategies and leadership of Phase 1-3 programs
    • 10-15+ years of experience in translational science and drug development with demonstrated experience in preclinical development, clinical development, and clinical operations; recognized as a leader in translational science
    • A critical thinker with the ability to analyze possibilities and solutions and make pragmatic trade-offs
    • A verifiable record of developing and mentoring excellent leaders
    • Direct executive/senior-level biotech/pharma experience is required
    • In-depth understanding of the drug discovery, development, and approval process
    • Experience in discerning quality technical or scientific writing is desirable
    • Demonstrated excellence in pipeline/portfolio leadership
    • Ability to solve problems with innovative solutions
    • Ability to make credible quantitative predictions
