Who You Are
Ideal candidates have a genuine passion for biology, are curious, have demonstrated skills in rodent handling, a strong eye for detail, an eagerness to learn new techniques, and a collaborative approach to scientific discovery.
What You Will Contribute To Altos
Meticulous colony management. Compile daily reports for each colony manager and update the colony management software for any animal movement, genotype and studies.
Work close to the scientist, provide technical support: animal handling, and restraint, injections, collecting blood and other biological samples, treatments, surgical preparation, perform post-operative observations and assist researchers in experimental procedures.
Work very closely with research labs to determine breeding needs and directions.
Complete daily husbandry tasks including health checks, breeding, weaning, microchipping, and tail collection.
Daily organization of the procedure rooms according to the needs of the researchers.
Supervise and train animal technicians and train Vivarium users
Ensure that all Vivarium users follow the appropriate SOPs and help the Core in improving SOPs
Adhere to animal welfare rules and regulations as instructed by management.
Share weekend and holiday hours (when needed) with peers on a rotational basis.
Being responsible for Vivarium maintenance, ensuring sufficient inventory, ordering and restocking supplies, cleaning, and sharing husbandry duties.
At least 2-3 years of relevant experience.
Strong communication skills and accurate record-keeping skills.
Attention to detail.
Knowledge of computer skills and MS Office software. (Knowledge of Softmouse will be a plus)
Self-motivated, flexible, and willing to meet strict deadlines.
Open to learn new cutting-edge techniques.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, goal-oriented, team-based environment.
Ability to work well with a wide variety of people at all levels and from all backgrounds.
Ability to be a team player who can work effectively both independently and as part of a larger group.
AALAS certification (ALAT or higher) is preferred.
