What You Will Contribute to Altos
The Histology and Imaging Specialist will work within the Light Microscopy Hub and report to the Hub Director. The Light Microscopy Hub broadly supports light microscopy technologies at the San Diego Institute within the larger R&D initiatives at Altos Labs. The Histology and Imaging Specialist will be actively involved in Light Microscopy Hub operations with a strong focus on histology operations.
Job Responsibilities and Functions
Highly involved with building the histology infrastructure and setting up histology operations.
Work closely with Light Microscopy Hub and Scientific Operations leads to plan further expansion of growth of histology infrastructure.
Responsible for the day to day running of histology operations, including coordination with research teams, maintenance of equipment, and ordering of consumables, reagents, and supplies.
Works closely Light Microscopy Hub leaders, In Vivo Hub leaders, Scientific Operations leaders, and researchers to design and implement histology support programs that address key scientific needs.
Leads efforts to implement and maintain inventory and sample tracking software systems.
Leads efforts to coordinate outsourced histology services provided by contract research organizations and other external partners.
Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities.
Supporting research activities of the investigator lab with the supervision of a scientist.
Sets up and operates laboratory equipment, prepares materials, performs experimental procedures, records and consolidates research data, and executes planned research activities using observation, measurement, and analytical techniques.
Tasks may include
large scale fermentation, protein purification, cloning,
mammalian cell line generation and maintenance, and protocol optimization,
virus production and purification, in vivo work.
Who You Are
BS in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
At least 3 years practical experience in a biological / medical / pharmaceutical research environment.
Experience in the preparation of human and/or laboratory animal tissues.
Experience with lab automation for sample tracking.
Experience with wide variety of histology staining paradigms.
Experience with advising on, planning, and implementing histological experiments.
Experience of immunohistochemistry techniques and other methods of tissue-based expression analysis.
Experience in brightfield and fluorescence imaging, as well as automated slide scanning.
Highly organised and self-motivated.
Meticulous attention to detail with solution driven mindset.
Strong communication skills, with proven ability to work with diverse and cross-functional teams.
Ability to multitask and work across multiple projects simultaneously.
High level of computer literacy to maintain electronic records.
