Principal Scientist/Senior Scientist – Cellular Metabolism/Yeast

Calico is inviting applications from individuals with substantial expertise in cellular metabolism who are excited to be part of a scientific team in the laboratory of Dan Gottschling (see publications here), which is focused on dissecting causal events in the cellular aging process using yeast as a model system. The successful applicant will be a creative and devoted experimentalist, who is skilled in designing and interpreting metabolic experiments to generate and test specific hypotheses. In addition, the applicant should be proficient at cell biology and/or biochemistry.

Position requirements:

• Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology or microbiology, and have completed a postdoc or 3+ years of additional relevant experience.
• Strong track record of research productivity in metabolism, with a deep knowledge of metabolic pathways and their relationship to cell physiology..
• Experience in designing metabolomics experiments utilizing mass spectrometric methods and/or biosensors.
• Experience working with microbial systems, preferably with Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills.

Additional preferred skills:

• Skilled in computational biology – ability to analyze large data sets.
• Experience in protein purification, biochemical assay development and/or cell biology.
