Principal Investigator, Aging & Metabolism

​​Position description:

Calico seeks Principal Investigators with innovative research programs that address the causes and consequences of metabolic changes with age.  Research should be focused on understanding metabolic mechanisms driving dysregulation of physiological homeostasis with age.  We are most interested in applicants with demonstrated experience in the analysis of whole organism and tissue level metabolism with a track record of applying molecular and cell biology tools to complement those studies, as well as the ability to carry out studies that can ascertain causal events in aging.

The candidate should also have a breadth of organismal knowledge to relate metabolism to changes in tissue homeostasis.  The ideal candidate is interested in identifying interventions that promote resilience as informed by a mechanistic understanding of aging pathobiology.

Principal Investigators at Calico are expected to lead independent, productive research groups in a fully funded, highly collaborative research environment. The candidate will have access to collaborations with a metabolomics-focused mass spectrometry group along with data scientists with expertise in metabolic modeling, as well of the rest of the state-of-the art technology labs, including biochemistry, genomics, proteomics, microscopy, preclinical imaging, mouse physiology, data science and machine learning. Principal Investigators are part of the larger scientific community and are encouraged to publish their work and give seminars.

Position requirements:

• Ph. D. or M.D. in chemistry, physiology, systems biology, or a related biological field
• Post-doctoral experience or leadership of an independent research program in either industry or academia
• Strong record of originality and productivity including impactful publications
• Must be willing to work onsite at least four (4) days per week
