Retro develops therapies for diseases driven by the biology of aging. We work on (1) partial reprogramming, (2) blood factors, and (3) autophagy to rejuvenate and restore function to cells, tissues, and organisms.
We have an opening for a Single Cell Research Associate or Scientist (contingent on experience) to optimize and execute the preparation of tissues for input into our single-cell omics engine and interface with lab automation equipment to achieve high quality sequencing data quickly. There is an opportunity to have a huge impact on the data we generate, impacting the team’s ultimate success.
You will be joining as part of the early team of a rapidly evolving startup that has a long-term vision and financial stability. Candidates can look forward to helping scale a focused research program in collaboration with a world-class team of scientists and engineers with diverse technical backgrounds. There will be an opportunity to learn cross-disciplinary skills upstream and downstream of your core responsibility, including single cell -omics, immunology, plasma biology, human iPS cells, and lab automation.
We look for adventurous, competent, mission-aligned high-performers and bet on them. We can teach you what you need to thrive, if you are already a sharp, energetic, curious and effective person. Please apply if this describes you. That being said, the listed qualifications are advantageous.
Responsibilities
Optimize and execute the preparation of tissues for input into our single-cell omics engine (tissue collections, digestions, cell purification/sorting, quality assessment)
Contribute to the planning/design of single cell -omic experiments, supporting multiple research programs simultaneously
Collaborate closely with the automation team in scaling up operations and then orchestrating robotic sequencing library generation
Flexibly evolve and master new skills to fill in gaps outside of your primary single cell -omic tissue input responsibility
Ideal Qualifications
A rigorous STEM education (BS/MS minimum) with an emphasis in biology
Prior experience generating single cell sequencing libraries from tissues
Demonstrated ability to work and think independently
Competence and comfort in a biology lab environment, with experience handling lab animals, collecting tissues, culturing cells from primary tissue, and performing basic molecular biology techniques
Ability to reliably execute long experimental protocols, thinking through every detail beforehand, and moving quickly with precious samples
Ability to source/propose new protocols/ideas by reading/distilling scientific literature
Bonus: Prior experience with flow cytometry, histology, or surgical skills
You may be a good match if you are
A hacker: you build quickly, information finds its ways to you
Enthusiastic about rapidly and creatively experimenting, learning, and improving
Excellent at explaining technical concepts clearly and have an open communication style
Mission-aligned: you deeply care about aging and extending healthy human lifespan
