Position Description:

Calico is seeking a skilled cellular/molecular biologist with experience working with primary mammalian cell cultures, molecular biology techniques, and animal models, this role is part of a cross-functional team that includes data scientists and in vivo researchers focused on the identification of aging processes and experimental validation of hypotheses originating from large-scale epidemiological data. This scientist will help in the design of in vitro and in vivo experiments to explore mechanism hypotheses, assist in multi-omics profiling, and carry out perturbation experiments. Prior experience with the design of cell-based experiments and perturbation assays is required. The ideal candidate is expected to be comfortable multi-tasking across experiments with distinct objectives set by the team. They will collaborate productively with other members of the team, will share responsibility for the data analysis and communication of the results, and will coordinate collaborative work with other groups in Calico. The ideal candidate is a clear communicator who thrives on attention to detail and enjoys exploring new areas of biology.

Position Requirements:

• Ph.D. in one of the following areas: Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Physiology, or related discipline and at least 2 years of relevant lab/mammalian in vivo/cell culture work experience
• Hands-on experience with in vivo handling and tissue isolation
• Hands-on experience with cell biology techniques (RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, Western Blot, small molecule/biologics interventional assays, scRNAseq)
• Must be willing to work onsite at least four days per week

Nice to have:

• Subject-matter exposure to musculoskeletal disorders
• Record of impactful publications
• Experience with data analysis and/or programing languages such as R or Python

The estimated base salary range for this role is $127,000 - $135,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
