    Company
    BlueRock Therapeutics

    Who is BlueRock?

BlueRock Therapeutics, a wholly-owned and independently operated subsidiary of Bayer AG, is a leading engineered cell therapy company using its unique CELL+GENE™ platform to direct cellular differentiation and genetically engineer cells to create a new generation of cellular medicines that address large patient populations suffering from neurological, cardiovascular, and immunology diseases.

The convergence of cell biology and genetic engineering is creating fundamental new ways to impact disease. Founded in 2016 to capitalize on these technological breakthroughs, we are advancing our novel CELL+GENE™ platform to develop, manufacture, and deliver an entirely new generation of authentic and engineered cell therapies across three therapeutic areas: neurology, cardiology, and immunology.

    What Are We Doing?

Our foundational science harnesses the ability to create and then direct the differentiation of universal pluripotent stem cells into authentic, functional cells that can be used as allogeneic cellular therapies to treat a broad array of diseases. We can also further engineer these cells, enabling them to produce enzymes, antibodies, and other proteins for additional therapeutic benefit.

We are passionate about delivering on the promise of cellular and gene therapy, shaping the future of cellular medicine, and delivering new therapies to millions of patients with treatment options.

We are seeking individuals who are collaborative, thrive in a fun and dynamic culture, and are steadfast in the commitment to advance cutting-edge cellular therapies to impact patients’ lives.

    Description of Position:

We are seeking a research associate to join our newly formed Genome Sciences team in Cambridge. Reporting to the Scientist, she or he will play a central role in the development, production, and evaluation of CRISPR gene editing components for use in pluripotent stem cells. The qualified candidate will have solid experience in expression and purification of recombinant proteins from bacterial cell culture and have some proficiency with mammalian cell culture using aseptic technique. He or she will also be curious, innovative, persistent, and be able to work independently in the laboratory with minimal supervision. If you are passionate about translating cutting-edge research technologies into therapies that can help patients and want to be part of the next wave of stem cell research, then come join us!

    Responsibilities:

    • Carry out experiments to express, purify, and characterize CRISPR nucleases for use in cell editing assays
    • Perform cloning and standard molecular biology manipulations
    • Assist with mammalian cell culture experiments and assays
    • Assist with process development through careful execution and documentation of experiments
    • Maintain ELN, write protocols and technical reports as part of good documentation practices

    Minimum Requirements:

    • B.A. with 0-5 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent.
    • Hands-on experience expressing, purifying, and analyzing recombinant proteins (ideally from microbial systems) using IEX, IMAC, SEC, etc. on automated FPLC systems
    • Knowledge of CRISPR gene editing techniques would be an asset
    • Keen desire to embrace challenges of working with and troubleshooting novel technologies and reagents
    • Comfortable with independently planning, executing, and analyzing experiments, learning new techniques, and performing multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
    • Biology
    • Research Scientist
