Research Associate - Assay Development

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual who will do well in the vibrant environment of a startup company and who enjoys taking on new challenges on a daily basis. The candidate will be leading initially for a 6-month period a new function responsible for cell line and cell culture development as well as support cell-based and enzymatic assays. This position requires someone who has an ability to work independently and who can work on more than one project simultaneously. Candidates should have experience with mammalian cell cultures, reporter-assays, in vitro and in vivo enzymatic assays, enzyme kinetics and inhibitor assays, as well as membrane protein isolation from heterologous and cell-free expression systems.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Plan experiments and perform primary analysis of data
• Design, establish and perform cell-based assays (bioluminescence assays, viability/apoptosis assays, EC50, IC50, in vitro assays to determine Kd, Michaelis Menten, etc.)
• Optimize expression of membrane proteins using different heterologous expression systems
• Collaborate with other functional groups including medicinal chemists, computational chemist, and crystallographers

Additional Skills (preferred, but not required):

• Experience with statistical design and analysis software
• Experience with structural biology
• Experience with interacting and managing CROs

Attributes:

• PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, biochemical engineering or related discipline with 1-3 years of laboratory experience in the biotechnology / biopharmaceutical industry, at startups, or as postdocs
• Highly organized with painstaking attention to details
• Proven technical experience in characterizing enzymes and inhibitors
• Excellent record keeping and technical writing and communication skills
• Self-directed and enthusiastic about collaborating with a strong and diverse inter-disciplinary team of scientists of various backgrounds
