    Company
    Herophilus

Herophilus is revolutionizing drug discovery for brain disorders. Founded by professors from Columbia University and UCSF and experienced technologists, we combine biotechnology, neuroscience, robotics, and machine learning techniques. We employ AI-driven phenotypic screening to discover novel drugs for complex neurological and psychiatric diseases such as epilepsy, autism, and schizophrenia.

We are building a high-throughput experimental platform for the collection and analysis of modern large-scale neuroscience datasets including electrophysiology, functional imaging, imaging of cleared tissue, and closed-loop optogenetic perturbation.

We are seeking excellent computational neuroscientists to join our multidisciplinary team in our search to understand the complex biology of neurological and psychiatric disorders. This role is as a core driver of our scientific mission, bridging between experimental neuroscience and machine learning.

    In this position you will:

    • Propose and implement computational models to analyze neural functional activity collected from cerebral organoids
    • Interface with the stem cell biology and bioengineering teams to understand and interpret complex neurological data
    • Mentor and cross-train with ML scientists via academic-style discussions and reviews
    • Participate in team-wide projects as well as lead the design and delivery of independent initiatives
    • Publish results in high-impact journals

    Our ideal candidate will have:

    • Academic publications in the field of computational and/or systems neuroscience; or 5+ years of industry experience in this area
    • Experience with applying statistics, signal processing, and/or machine learning to neural activity datasets (e.g., multi-electrode arrays, electrophysiology, or calcium imaging)
    • Proficiency in scientific computation (e.g., Python/NumPy, R, MATLAB)

We offer competitive salaries and benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and an intellectually stimulating and fast-paced work environment.

If this excites you, then we are excited to hear from you! Please contact us and include your CV or résumé.

Herophilus is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
