Relation Therapeutics overview
Relation Therapeutics’ goal is to transform how drug discovery & development are conducted, leading to new medicines for diseases where there is a high unmet need.
Relation was founded to bring the power of recommender systems machine learning to the fundamental problem of target and drug discovery. These methods are highly de-risked, given their established performance in analogous settings. A key blocker to successful application of these methods thus far has been a lack of high-quality data, especially data describing causal relationships.
We are generating proprietary high-quality data which fills in the gaps, so that these powerful models can be deployed at last. Our platform leverages human genetics, single-cell omics and perturbational data to understand biology where the relationship between gene and disease is complex and cannot be explained by genetics alone. At every step of the discovery process, we generate data - high-confidence maps of causal relationships that drive disease - and use machine learning to comprehend the vast volume of data.
The Opportunity:
RelationRx has an excellent opportunity for a talented Senior scientist to join an interdisciplinary, highly collaborative team of experimental and computational drug discovery researchers in our newly built state-of-the-art functional genomics lab in London.
Large-scale genetic studies, including genome-wide association studies (GWAS), have discovered thousands of variants and loci associated with complex diseases, yet it is difficult to draw disease insight as the vast majority of loci lie in non-coding regions of the genome and have unknown function. At RelationRX, we are generating proprietary large-scale datasets to accelerate the prediction of disease genes from these loci using state-of-the-art machine learning methods. We will identify the key effector genes, cells and pathways involved in the pathophysiology of disease and proceed to predict disease targets for experimental validation.
The post-holder will play a key role in generating single cell transcriptomics data from patient tissues.
By joining Relation, you will be part of an exceptionally talented team, learn a broad range of skills within and outside your area of expertise, help us shape our culture and strategic direction and ultimately, make a positive impact in patients lives. As the company is growing rapidly, there may be opportunities to manage a team.
Professionally, you have:
A PhD in biological sciences with an excellent track record in academia, biotech or pharma.
At least two years of research experience in applying the latest single cell technologies to tissues.
At least two years of experience in preparing tissue sections for confocal microscopy or spatial transcriptomics.
Experience in preparation of 10X Genomics Illumina sequencing libraries and Illumina sequencing would be advantageous.
Personally, you have:
Vision and passion for applying new single cell technologies to the problem of identifying disease genes and drug targets for diseases with unmet need.
Independence and motivation, a self-starter and problem-solver.
An ability to build effective working relationships with proven team-working skills.
An ability to communicate effectively with scientists from multiple disciplines, including computational scientists.
Excellent attention to detail.
An inquisitive nature.
Desire to work within a data science-first environment.
A willingness to operate within start-up environments.
