    Position description:

    The Senior Payroll Specialist is a subject matter expert for payroll and is an integral member of the Finance team tasked with supporting the needs of a growing company. The Senior Payroll Specialist will assist and help to lead payroll operations, business and tax processes, and vendor and partner management. As part of the Finance team, the Senior Payroll Specialist will also assist in supporting general finance and accounting activities.

    Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for assisting and leading payroll operations including escalations, approvals, issue resolution, and employee communications
    • Provided oversight for some payroll vendor activities including payroll processing, month-end, quarter-end, and year-end/annual activities
    • Respond and manage tax notices, registrations, wage orders, government correspondences, and audit support.
    • A "roll up your sleeves" work style with a sense of drive and urgency, balancing multiple priorities simultaneously and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
    • Assist with vendor and stakeholder management including preparation of requested statistical and/or financial payroll reports, data, or estimates
    • Provide superior customer service to all end-users regarding system use, function, issues and questions; troubleshoot the payroll system and payroll vendor interface files for issues.
    • Partner with Accounting, HR, and Finance for policy, project, and operational support
    • Manage year-end and annual audits, reporting, and ad hoc analyses.
    • Additional Finance responsibilities as necessary, including assisting in monthly accounting close, budget vs. actuals, forecasting, reconciliations.

    Position requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of payroll experience.
    • Must have knowledge of California state tax and wage & hour laws. Experience with multi-state and global payroll a plus
    • Knowledge of Ultimate Software/UKG HRIS and/or other payroll softwares
    • Knowledge of payroll accounting to ensure accurate GL and tax reporting
    • Superior customer service and support to employees, internal stakeholders, and collaborators
    • Must be able to maintain confidentiality, security, and integrity of payroll data
    • Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and meet time-sensitive deadlines
