    Company
    Calico

Calico (Calico Life Sciences LLC) is an Alphabet-founded research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies and model systems to increase our understanding of the biology that controls human aging. Calico will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives. Calico’s highly innovative technology labs, its commitment to curiosity-driven discovery science and, with academic and industry partners, its vibrant drug-development pipeline, together create an inspiring and exciting place to catalyze and enable medical breakthroughs.

    Position Description:

We are looking for an outstanding and innovative imaging scientist to join our team to augment our ability to derive transformative biological insights from clinical imaging data. A key responsibility of the role is the development and implementation of imaging strategies for prospective clinical trials as well as analytical methods for existing medical imaging databases. You will focus on developing image analysis algorithms and protocols for clinical data (MRI, CT, PET, Ultrasound,...) to characterize disease biomarkers and develop new biomarkers for aging and age-related diseases, with the potential for utilizing these biomarkers in the evaluation of novel therapeutic drug candidates. These strategies will be developed in collaboration with an array of discovery scientists working on the biology of aging, machine learning engineers and data scientists in a dynamic collaborative environment. Calico provides a stimulating and collaborative working environment focused on fundamental discovery research and a commitment to translate scientific advances to realize their therapeutic potential.

    Responsibilities:

    • Utilizing your understanding of clinical imaging technology, image processing techniques and disease pathology to develop imaging protocols for clinical trials
    • Collaborate with Clinical Science to develop clinical trial protocols and technical manuals that feature imaging techniques
    • Collaborate with Clinical Science and Clinical Operations as an interface with Imaging CROs
    • Work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary environment with discovery scientists, translational project teams, preclinical imaging and computing teams to implement conventional image analysis pipelines and develop new quantification methods and biomarkers
    • Provide scientific advice on the utility of different imaging biomarkers for translational projects
    • Collaborate with the computing team to develop analysis strategies for large medical image databases.

    Position requirements:

    • Ph.D. degree in Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science or related field with at least 5 years of work experience or postdoc
    • Experience with clinical trial design and execution (> 2 years)
    • Experience in collaborating with Imaging vendors and CROs
    • Experience with medical image formats (e.g., DICOM, nifti)
    • Candidates should have strong programming skills (MATLAB, C++/C, Python, R) and experience with advanced image analysis techniques
    • Familiarity with conventional brain image processing techniques (FSL, SPM)
    • Good understanding of clinical imaging modalities
    • Conceptual understanding of different computer vision / machine learning techniques
    • Self-motivated with a “can-do” attitude
    • Flexible, able to respond quickly to shifting priorities
    • Strong communication and presentation skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams

    Nice to have:

    • Experience with ML/DL based image processing
    • Experience with clinical image databases (PACS, …)
    • Scientific understanding of clinical MRI sequences
    • Research experience in neurodegenerative disorders
    • Experience in leading biomarker strategy for a drug development program

Calico requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to the first date of employment.  As required by applicable law, Calico will consider requests for Reasonable Accommodations.
