POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a reliable member to join the team and assist research personnel in all farm activities including operating large equipment, hay production, landscaping, and basic animal care of swine. [RB1] [GU2] [RB3] The right individual will have experience working with large animals, farm equipment, and must be able to perform maintenance on equipment and buildings. Experience with hand tools and power tools is required. The right individual must be detail-oriented with strong communication skills and the ability to work as a team. This position requires physical demands such as climbing, stooping, crouching, sitting on equipment such as lawnmowers and tractors for extended periods, and handling/moving swine throughout the facilities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for operating large farm equipment at the eGenesis - WI facility
Operation of skid loaders, tractors, and hay equipment
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and repairs when needed
Responsible for mowing, weed eating, and general landscaping
Operation of lawn mower tractor (Zero Turn, AWD), weed wacker and leaf blower
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and repairs when needed[CN4] [GU5]
Participate in daily care of pigs at the animal facilities
Feeding, caring for, and handling swine
Cleaning and upkeep of the swine research facilities
Operate farm equipment and machinery
Knowledge and basic understanding of hand and power tools
Operate sprayers and manure spreading machinery
Perform support for animals and operations in the quarantine facility
Provide additional support as needed to other research activities within the company
Promote and adhere to safety in workplace
Follow safe work practices and enforce health and safety regulations
Promote safety awareness
Correct unsafe acts and conditions and ensure equipment is properly maintained
Report and investigate all accidents/incidents
Inspect personal area and take remedial action to minimize or eliminate hazards
Complete required training assignments, forms, and other paperwork
Adhere to eGenesis biosecurity requirements for the facility
Due to the nature of operating a research animal facility, there is potential to be asked to work overtime hours
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
1+ years of experience in large animal care and handling
1+ years of experience in facility and equipment maintenance
Working knowledge of animal husbandry, including nutrition, reproduction, and safety
Basic working knowledge facility maintenance, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills
Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills
Basic use of Microsoft office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
Must not have any other interaction with pigs outside of the company
CDL driver’s license desired but not required
Strong attention to operational planning and follow through
Working knowledge of data collection and recording
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in different environments, including farm, shop, office, laboratory, and animal husbandry environments in varying weather conditions. The employee frequently is required to be walking, stooping, climbing, and crouching. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust to focus.
