    Company
    Calico

    Who We Are:

Calico (Calico Life Sciences LLC) is an Alphabet-founded research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies and model systems to increase our understanding of the biology that controls human aging. Calico will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives.  Calico’s highly innovative technology labs, its commitment to curiosity-driven discovery science and, with academic and industry partners, its vibrant drug-development pipeline, together create an inspiring and exciting place to catalyze and enable medical breakthroughs.

    Position Description:

Calico is recruiting a passionate “drug hunter” with a strong background in mechanistic cell and/or tumor biology. Our team functions at the interface between biochemistry, structural biology, computing, and internal Calico drug-development teams while supplementing capabilities through external sponsored research agreements.  With these competencies, we will build novel discovery platforms and identify exploitable drug targets with an emphasis on deep dives into biology to understand systems of interest. Our group will be modality-agnostic and exploit the “best” approach including bioactive peptides, degraders, small molecules, antibodies, covalent technologies, and systems yet to be described—the science will guide us.

You will help devise and conduct innovative target discovery approaches, develop drugs, validate hits, and explore mechanistic biology. You will need a broad technical background that will enable effective collaboration between life scientists, data scientists, machine learning and automation engineers.

    Position Requirements:

    • You should have completed a Ph.D. as well as postdoctoral training and/or several years industry experience in a field related to chemistry, cell biology, biophysics, molecular biology, structural biology, chemical biology, or a related discipline
    • As an independent contributor, you must be passionate about science and plentiful/fearless with your ideas. You will be encouraged to explore grass-root discovery efforts and drive existing pipeline projects. Publication of those results will be encouraged
    • Requisite skills may include prior experience with mammalian cell culture, CRISPR technology, protein biochemistry, molecular biology, mouse tumor biology, organic and medicinal chemistry
    • Competency in data and image analysis skills, knowledge of Python or R bioinformatic analysis is a significant plus
    • Experience in diverse drug modalities such as degraders, covalent small molecules and DNA encoded libraries is a plus
    • Experience in synthetic organic chemistry is a plus
    • You will have a track record of strong research productivity and effective collaboration
    • You need to be an enthusiastic team player, thrive on attention to detail and have excellent verbal/written communication skills
    • Must be able to work Onsite four days a week

The estimated base salary range for this role is $127,000 - $166,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.

Calico requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to the first date of employment. As required by applicable law, Calico will consider requests for Reasonable Accommodations.
