We are a well-funded, untraditional bio startup based in Redwood City. Retro develops therapies for diseases driven by the biology of aging. We work on (1) partial reprogramming, (2) blood factors, and (3) autophagy to rejuvenate cell and tissue function with the ultimate aim of adding years to healthy human lifespan by 10 years.
We are seeking a Lipid Nanoparticle Scientist to join our multidisciplinary team. You will primarily focus on the development and optimization of lipid nanoparticle-based delivery systems for cellular reprogramming. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, synthesizing, characterizing, and evaluating lipid nanoparticles for targeted delivery of nucleic acids and other bioactive molecules facilitating cellular reprogramming. This is an opportunity to contribute to research in the field of aging and cell therapies in the collaborative spirit of Retro’s team.
In this role you will:
Optimize and characterize the physicochemical properties of novel lipid nanoparticle formulations
Conduct characterization studies to assess the stability, size, charge, and other critical parameters of lipid nanoparticles
Design and perform systematic screening studies and optimize lipid nanoparticle formulations to achieve high transfection efficiency and cellular uptake both in vitro and in vivo
Present results of the experiments to internal and external collaborators
Collaborate across multiple research teams to design and execute cellular-reprogramming experiments using lipid nanoparticles
Read and present latest scientific literature and developments in the field of lipid nanoparticles and cellular reprogramming
You might thrive in this role if you:
You have a Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., bioengineering, molecular biology, pharmaceutical sciences) with a strong focus on lipid nanoparticles. Candidates with a Master's degree and extensive relevant experience may also be considered (6 or more years of related working experience after PhD for senior scientist positions)
Have demonstrated expertise in the design, formulation, and characterization of lipid nanoparticles for nucleic acid delivery.
Are proficient in various lipid nanoparticle characterization techniques (e.g., dynamic light scattering, zeta potential, endosomal-escape assays, etc.)
Have a track record of scientific publications and conference presentations in the field of lipid nanoparticles
Are energetic, detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and deeply pragmatic. You thrive in a culture that embraces rapid iteration and open, straightforward communication
Have a burning desire to understand aging biology through the lens of modern data-rich measurement technologies
Nice-to-have: hands-on experience in cellular reprogramming techniques, such as induced pluripotent stem cell generation or direct lineage conversion.
Our team is a group of mission-driven, kind, and thoughtful individuals. We take pride in evolving a work environment that fosters collaboration, open communication, and authenticity. We believe that great results are best delivered by a highly creative group working in concert. We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company; we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
