    Company
    Calico

Calico (Calico Life Sciences LLC) is an Alphabet-founded research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies and model systems to increase our understanding of the biology that controls human aging. Calico will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives. Calico’s highly innovative technology labs, its commitment to curiosity-driven discovery science and, with academic and industry partners, its vibrant drug-development pipeline together create an inspiring and exciting place to catalyze and enable medical breakthroughs

    Position description:

Calico seeks an experienced biologist to establish an in vivo gene delivery group to support pre-clinical research in mouse models of aging and disease.  The candidate will work closely with Calico’s physiology group and research labs to design, develop and deploy AAV and LNP-based tools to accelerate our mechanistic understanding of aging and facilitate target discovery/validation.

This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role that will require a clear understanding of scientific aims, technical constraints and in vivo experimental design.  The platforms will be dynamic and driven by research needs, with evolving target cell types and functional readouts in a variety of tissues, including the brain.  The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver who is motivated to develop useful tools.

    Position responsibilities:

    • Design, execute and interpret in vivo gene delivery experiments
    • Problem solve and present gene delivery strategies to deploy gene perturbations with cell type specificity and temporal control based on research needs
    • Coordinate work with internal collaborators and external CROs to execute on agreed upon goals in a timely manner
    • Project management and prioritization of activities and collaborations
    • Stay at the cutting edge of relevant delivery technologies

    Position requirements:

    • PhD in biology or a related discipline plus 3+ years of work experience
    • Clear communication skills and attention to detail
    • Experience with AAV or LNP production and delivery
    • Experience with single cell RNA-seq, FACS and/or histology
    • Familiarity with multiple tissue contexts is a plus
    • Track record of productivity and creative problem solving
    • Must be able to work On-site four days a week.

Calico requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to the first date of employment. As required by applicable law, Calico will consider requests for Reasonable Accommodations.
