    Company
    Calico

Calico (Calico Life Sciences LLC) is an Alphabet-founded research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies and model systems to increase our understanding of the biology that controls human aging. Calico will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives.  Calico’s highly innovative technology labs, its commitment to curiosity-driven discovery science and, with academic and industry partners, its vibrant drug-development pipeline, together create an inspiring and exciting place to catalyze and enable medical breakthroughs.

    Position description:

Calico seeks Principal Investigators with innovative research programs that address the causes and consequences of mammalian brain aging.  Of particular interest is research focused on understanding the mechanisms driving neurodegeneration and/or neuroinflammation, and how these core mechanisms impact age-associated changes in tissue homeostasis and organismal physiology.

The successful candidate will make innovative use of emerging technologies - e.g. single cell multiomics and spatial transcriptomics - and have a long-term interest in identifying ways to promote resilience that are informed by a mechanistic understanding of aging pathobiology.

Principal Investigators at Calico are expected to lead independent, productive research groups in a fully funded, highly collaborative research environment with support from state-of-the art technology labs, including biochemistry, genomics, mass spectrometry, microscopy, preclinical imaging, mouse physiology, data science and machine learning. Principal Investigators are part of the larger scientific community and are encouraged to actively engage in academic collaborations and to publish their work.

    Position requirements:

    • Ph. D. or M.D. in neuroscience, brain and cognitive sciences, biology, physiology, systems biology, or related field
    • Post-doctoral experience or have led an independent research program in either industry or academia
    • Strong record of originality and productivity including impactful publications
    • Experience with human MRI-derived phenotypes is a plus
    • Must be willing to work onsite at least four (4) days per week

Please include a 2-3 page description of research interests and Resume/CV in the application.

Calico requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to the first date of employment. As required by applicable law, Calico will consider requests for Reasonable Accommodations.
