    Company
    Calico

    Who We Are:

Calico (Calico Life Sciences LLC) is an Alphabet-founded research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies and model systems to increase our understanding of the biology that controls human aging. Calico will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives.  Calico’s highly innovative technology labs, its commitment to curiosity-driven discovery science, and, with academic and industry partners, its vibrant drug-development pipeline, together create an inspiring and exciting place to catalyze and enable medical breakthroughs.

    Position Description:

Calico invites outstanding early-career scientists to apply for a postdoc position in the Gillich Lab. Our lab is using genetic and single-cell approaches to elucidate the programs governing the maintenance and repair of the lung and what goes wrong with these programs during aging and in age-associated diseases. We are seeking a creative, ambitious, and highly motivated individual to join our team. You will employ cutting-edge microscopy and genomic approaches in mouse and human tissues to investigate how the structure, function and cells of the lung and vasculature are maintained in homeostasis and how they are altered during aging. Using this understanding as a basis, you will explore how the cells, their interactions and functions might be manipulated to prevent or reverse aging and disease pathologies and restore gas exchange and vascular function.

    Responsibilities:

    • Investigate mechanisms of pulmonary vascular homeostasis, repair and aging using microscopy and single-cell multiomics/spatial transcriptomics approaches
    • Present findings internally and externally at conferences
    • Prepare manuscripts for publication

    Position Requirements:

    • PhD in genetics, cell or developmental biology, or related discipline
    • Strong record of research productivity with impactful scientific publications
    • Experience with microscopy and single-cell genomics
    • Competency with Python or R
    • Expertise in lung or vascular biology is a plus
    • Must be willing to work onsite at least four days per week

The estimated base salary for this role is $90,000.

More information on our postdoctoral fellowship program can be found here.

Calico requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to the first date of employment. As required by applicable law, Calico will consider requests for Reasonable Accommodations.
